Get to know Stephen through a short Q&A.
When should you meet with a Financial Advisor?
Stephen:
Ideally the best time to meet is as soon as possible to start the financial planning process. I believe that no matter what stage of life a client is in, they will get value in that initial meeting. I understand that we all lead busy lives so the initial meeting can be brief and allow the client to get to know my process and how we will work together.
What should I expect at our first meeting?
Stephen:
During the first meeting I like to learn as much as I can about the client and what they expect from our relationship. I believe it is important to build and earn trust. I will speak about my background and explain my process, which is to navigate clients and simplify the process of working with an advisor. I’ll also explain what services are available through the wealth management firm.
What are misconceptions about working with a financial advisor?
Stephen:
From my experience, the biggest misconception is that advisors only deal with investing money. I am a CFP and am required to act as a fiduciary and put client needs first and understand their entire financial picture. I listen to their goals, risk tolerance, family situation, employment, and how they are motivated by their money. Recommendations will be discussed after I learn more about them.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Stephen:
I enjoy the challenge of working together with my clients to help them achieve their goals. I truly love building trust and relationships with clients. I have worked long term with many of my clients and there is no better feeling than getting to know their families and seeing them reap the rewards of their goal planning.
How do you apply your wealth management experience to your own life?
Stephen:
Just as I always begin by listening to my clients, I do the same with my immediate family. My wife, children and I each have our own “bucket list”. Based on these conversations we have prioritized travel, college and retirement, and we have a financial plan in place for each along with protection planning. We keep short and long-term goals separate and we revise annually. As we get closer to each goal, I reduce risk in order to protect our plan and increase the probability of attaining the items on our bucket list.
